This year I’ve decided to participate in National Novel Writing Month which means even less activity on this page for the next few weeks. I know, I know, this space has become a barren wasteland as of late but I’m still around.
I’ve procrastinated for over a year on starting my memoir but with NaNoWriMo under way, I’m hoping this will be the kick in the crotch I need to get serious. Realistically, I’ll probably make it to 10,000 words and then give up because napping always sounds like a better option. Only time will tell.
If you’re also participating in National Novel Writing Month, find me at Jamie_Writes.
If you need a tad of inspiration during the next 30 days, feel free to watch the below gif approximately 600 times in a row. It helps.
I recently read Jenny Lawson’s (aka The Bloggess) latest memoir and there was a part where she discussed how a friend told her to “pretend you’re good at it” when she was having trouble recording her audiobook. After writing the phrase down on her arm and repeating the mantra several times over, she was more confident and nailed her audiobook like a pro.
That line changed how I viewed writing. My goal this month is to pretend I’m good at it. To pretend I’ve done this whole novel thing 100 times before. And really, we could all use this phrase for any part of our lives. From nervous interviews, to trying something new… pretend you’re good at it.
And speaking of The Bloggess, I met her a few weeks ago at a book signing in DC. I asked her to sprinkle some of her talent on my book and so of course, she rubbed it on her boobs.
So with the power of pretending to be good at it and a dash of titty talent, I believe I am all set to kick NaNoWriMo’s ass.
See you in a few weeks.
